A Glee-ful Echo of Rebecca Black’s “Friday”

A few weeks ago, we covered the amazing awfulness that is Rebecca Black’s “Friday” and pointed out how and why it became a viral video. The song has spurned many parodies and covers since its inception, and now it has made its way to a new level of recognition: as a song covered by the award-winning American television show, Glee. Close to 10 million viewers tuned in to watch a recent episode about prom, in which cast members performed a revamped rendition of “Friday”. The show makers' decision to feature "Friday" on Glee is an acknowledgement of the song's status as a “modern classic”, and despite all of the negative criticism she may have received in the past, Rebecca Black has come out on top. It only goes to show that nothing is too absurd or awful to become the next, big viral hit!
